OVERVIEW &  CHALLENGE

As a new initiative, Awhina House had no digital presence to communicate its mission, raise awareness, or connect with the community.

DISCOVERY AND RESEARCH
  • Awhina House was the first women’s shelter in Tauranga, and at the time they had no digital presence.

With only a brief set of conversations and their existing mission statement to guide the work, the project did not involve a deep research phase. Instead, the focus was on defining a simple audience need: communicating the shelter’s mission clearly to women seeking support as well as to potential donors and volunteers. This led to a basic outline of key pages and lightweight goals for a small, updateable website.
  • IDEATION

A short brand guide and included Home, About, Services, How to Help, and Contact. I also defined a basic CMS model for news and resources, along with a set of reusable components such as a hero section, service cards, and a contact block. Quick sketches and wireframes were used to validate layout and content emphasis before moving to design

    DESIGN

The design process emphasized new digital assets with restrained use of color and typography to keep some clarity. In Webflow, I created reusable components and set up a minimal CMS to allow the shelter team to update the site over time. The project concluded with a simple handoff, providing notes on how to add new posts and resources.

    SOLUTION

This was a short engagement project aimed at publishing a first-version site quickly. The goal was not a polished long-term platform but an initial presence that could grow and evolve as the initiative matured.

We eliminated tool fragmentation by centralizing operations in Webflow and automating key processes. On the UX side, we restructured the site based on user insights and competitive analysis. I analyzed her tools and noted inefficiencies caused by platform limitations and lack of clarity all of which added friction to daily operations. We mapped out where the inefficiencies were showing up and here’s what we found.

    APPROACH

    What I Learned

I gained confidence in organizing content and structuring layouts.
I created a simple digital presence that helped share their mission.
The project highlighted the role of design in amplifying social initiatives.
Managing time zone differences and asynchronous communication, I delivered all required assets and maintained project continuity.

    CHALLENGE

We conducted some elicitation interviews with target customers to understand their pain points. Our team also performed competitive analysis to identify how other ecommerce platforms approached the purchasing experience.
“…Working with her daily across different teams, I observed her consistent ability to execute tasks with excellence, collaborate effectively, and support everyone around her.”

“Jordana is a very professional, intelligent, and most importantly skilled UI/UX designer.

When I was working with her in a project she easily turned product managers ideas into reality that lead to successfully meeting our MVP before our deadline. I can see from working with Jordana on projects that she would be a very valuable UI/UX Engineer to have in any or organization or group.”
