OVERVIEW
SetSense is a training app designed to make workout tracking. It combines logging with AI-driven insights and data from paired devices, giving lifters a clear picture of their progress and recovery

problem

Most workout trackers don’t adapt to individual needs. They provide the same advice to everyone, regardless of goals, recovery, or training history. Without personalization, athletes are left with generic feedback that doesn’t support long-term progress. How can tracking feel effortless while also showing meaningful progress and keeping people motivated?

PROCESS

Discovery

I spoke with a few lifters across different experience levels to understand frustrations with current tools. Key motivators were competition, visible progress, and personalization.

Ideation

Sketched flows for in-gym use, prioritizing simplicity and speed.

Design built prototypes in Figma.

SOLUTION

Personalized profile - Centralized view of stats, history, and upcoming sessions.
Community challenges - Weekly competitions and achievements to encourage consistency.
AI visualizations - Progress charts and insights that highlight trends and plateaus.
Device integration - Sync with fitness trackers for more accurate data and recovery guidance.

Discovery

Clear Progress Visualization
Charts and trend lines felt more motivating than long lists of logged numbers.

Fast, In-Session Logging
One of the biggest frustrations with existing apps was how long it takes to record sets. Lifters wanted logging to be almost invisible, so they could stay focused on the workout.

Integration with Devices
Many lifters already use wearables (rings, watches...)or apps for tracking heart rate, sleep, or steps, sleep quality.

SetSense helps to pull that data in so recommendations felt more personalized.

Ideation

My goal was to design clear user flows that minimize friction and help athletes track, compare, and improve their training performance.

By mapping out a few interaction paths, I was able to highlight moments in the journey where data capture, motivation, and recovery feedback.

The workout logging flow begins at the dashboard, where users can select exercises, log sets, reps, and weights, and save sessions with minimal taps.

The progress and motivation flow emerges through the assistant tab, where users can find support and make questions about their own progress.

These flows were deliberately kept simple and structured to support athletes in the moment, while also layering in long-term progress tracking and recovery guidance.

Together, they establish a foundation for engagement, personalization, and performance-driven decision-making.

Design

Building Around Core Flows
With the initial flows established, I focused on designing UI elements that would integrate smoothly into the workout experience.

The goal was to keep the interface lightweight, so I refined components for quick logging, progress visualization, and community challenges.

High-Fidelity Mockups
Creating high-fidelity mockups was key to showing how SetSense would feel in real use.

I designed mockups of the dashboard, stat cards to illustrate how the app supports different scenarios.

These visuals demonstrated how progress, competition could coexist in one interface.

APPROACH

Reflection

Working on SetSense showed me how much gym people just want tracking to get out of the way. If logging a workout takes too long, they’ll stop using it.

I also noticed how much motivation comes from seeing progress clearly.

If I were to take this further, I’d look into wearables and more automation the less someone has to type or tap in the gym, the better.

“Jordana is a very professional, intelligent, and most importantly skilled UI/UX designer.

When I was working with her in a project she easily turned product managers ideas into reality that lead to successfully meeting our MVP before our deadline. I can see from working with Jordana on projects that she would be a very valuable UI/UX Engineer to have in any or organization or group.”
